Managing the risk of suicide in a psychiatry clinic: an ethnographic study on the work atmosphere of nurses during the pandemic period

Introduction It is known that the restrictions and clinical changes experienced during pandemic period have negative effects on care treatment of psychiatric patients. However, insights how environment approaches healthcare professionals serving affect patients at risk suicide are insufficient. Objectives This ethnographic study aimed to identify nurses in managing relation with their work environment. Methods research design used a sample 13 clinic Ankara. Data were collected in-depth interviews, participant observations observant participations. obtained from total 612 hours observation planned nurse interviews. analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis. Results The emergent main theme data analysis explained under title “The loss inauthenticity management”. “Risk inauthenticity” means fact individual suicidal factors differences cannot be perceived/assessed by nurses. Conclusions Supposing all having same level caused insensitivity risky process. Nurses’ inadequate approach patient personality disorder limited social interactions due atmosphere made it difficult for knowledge understanding cope ideations. These findings show importance use valid reliable scales formulations significance triage crisis periods such as current pandemic. In addition, creating available online consultancy service alternatives may an important role management who disturbed long-term hospitalization.
